Jacob Kravetz is a self-taught, visual artist who discovered his passion for artistic creation while earning his PhD in Organic Chemistry.

His work draws inspiration from several sources: the abstract expressionist movement, particularly in conveying emotion through gesture and color; zen art practice, in his ongoing “Time Pieces” using daily life experiences to inform the artistic practice and emphasizing full attention in simple motions repeated daily; and the intersection between the arts science and culture in his Alloys series deconstructing important materials into constituent elements, and with using textiles; weaving paintings together with patterns based on math formulae.

An active through line in all of his work is collaboration, often working simultaneously on the same piece with one or more collaborators. He loves the active exchange and response of ideas and actions during collaboration and believes that when everyone trusts each other in the creative process, it leads to places no individual artist can achieve alone.

He is a founder of the Traveling Cloud School Art Collective, and creator of the Berkshire Phantasmagoria (2021), a yearly multidisciplinary artist retreat exploring how to paint music through collaborative performance art.
